Evidence of our Salvation: Walking in Life

You know you are saved because you trusted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and God do not lie.  You know you are saved because you continue to recognize sin in your life; you confess it and walk away from it.  You know you are saved because you keep His commandments (1 John 3:23) and you abide in Christ and walk like He walked (in holiness). You know you are saved because you love your brethren and intentionally seek their wellbeing.  We know we are saved because we walk in the light, we walk in love and we walk in life.

You salvation, your eternal relationship with God will not begin when you die and go to heaven; it began the day you invited Jesus into your life.  Because you are saved you live a redeemed life now.  How do we know we are living a redeemed life today?  We live victoriously (1 John 5:4–5).  We live in a world that is constantly challenging our faith.  The standards we get from this world are mostly in direct contradiction with what we know of God and His ways.  It’s to be expected since Satan is the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2) and “ruler of this world” (John 12:21).  He is the major influence of the ideals, opinions, goals, hopes and views of the majority of people around you.  But, you belong to God and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. (1 John 4:4, 5:19)  You have all the power to live you faith out every day, in every circumstance of life.  But God created you with a will that needs to be modified to understand this concept.  How can you do that?  You resist the temptation to yield to what this world system throws at you that is not aligned with God’s purposes and change the way you think.  It’s a choice!  You know you are saved because you choose daily to follow God’s ways over this world’s ways.  That’s living in victory! (Romans 12:1–2)

We live victoriously and we pray confidently. (1 John 5:14–15) An evidence of a true relationship with God is a confident prayer life; not a presumptuous, egotistical and/or conceited prayer life but an undaunted trusting prayer life. (Hebrews 4:16)  The key for a confident prayer life is an intimate relationship with and proper knowledge of God and His Son Jesus.  Then you will know what to ask for and when to ask for it.

One of the prayer requests that ought to be constantly in our repertoire is prayer for the lost and the brethren in sin. (1 John 5:16)  What is this “sin that leads to death”?  Theologians cannot come to a sure consensus but I believe it refers to the unforgivable sin, the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 12:31) The blasphemy against the Spirit is giving credit to Satan for the things God does.  When someone gives Satan credit for creation, miracles, redemption, etc. he is insulting God and it is not forgiven.

Are you in Christ?  Therefore live victoriously, pray confidently and keep God first. (1 John 5:21)  John told us that there are things that compete with keeping God and His purposes first in our list of priorities. (1 John 2:16)  An evidence of your salvation is keeping them in the right place in your life.  Nothing wrong with physical pleasure when is kept within God’s predetermined boundaries.  Nothing wrong with wanting things and wanting to succeed in life as long as they do not interfere with God’s purpose in you and through you.

If you run an inventory of your priorities in life, will you find God in first place?  In conclusion, We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.” (1 John 5:18–20, NLT)

Stop doubting that you are saved.  Did you trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and your Savior?  You are saved so, live in the light, live in love, live the life God has prepare for you to live as His child.  Remember, we love, we serve and we follow the only true God and He is eternal life.
