We have a serious of messages that is called “Vertical Wisdom for Horizontal Living” that is basically the title of the series and we started way back. I have no glue when we are going to finish because we are still at the 10th chapter of the book of Proverbs. We are taking the whole book of Proverbs and preaching through the whole book of Proverbs. So go ahead and keep on reading your devotional time in the book of Proverbs. We are in chapter 10 and when we got to chapter 10 I found out that I couldn’t continue preaching just verse by verse because we were going to be like Pac-Man going from one place to the other jumping all over the place so I changed the style. We are picking some topics for which we are going to hear the Word of God and hopefully at the end I will have my new Bible that I bought all marked, every single verse in the book of Proverbs. That is my goal. If you want to do the same thing, I got a Bible that I wasn’t using for anything and I am marking every single verse that I have preached or I have gone to in the book of Proverbs and trying to stay away from them again, so that we can preach every single verse in the book of Proverbs.
That’s how rich this book is and I hope that richness of that book can become part of your life because that’s what it is about. We are trying to get wisdom from heaven to help us live down here and that is why it is titled like that “Vertical Wisdom for Horizontal Living” and last week we started a series of messages that is going to take 2 or 3 weeks. I am talking about righteousness. Righteousness, making that in a way that we can understand. It’s living right with God. How can we live right with God?
Now many people today have this idea that living right with God is kind of like going to the Marines and going through basic training and going through all the training there and you are will to do whatever you are asked to do and it must be a situation of obedience or otherwise the wrath of your sergeant of whoever is in charge comes upon you. Well kind of like that but it’s not that bad because the reality is that because of the righteousness of Christ being inputed or given to us through faith in Christ Jesus, every single follower of Christ should be so, so, so happy and so joyful and so thankful to God that whatever He says we do it willingly without having to feel like we are serving in the Armed Forces. We just do it because we love him so much and we want our lives to count for him and for those who are looking at us. And that’s why it is so important that we understand about righteousness because I don’t want you in any way shape or form thinking that if you don’t do the things God tells you to do you are going to have lightning bolt coming and get you. It may happen, I can’t say… I’m not God and He doesn’t ask for my permission to do what He wants to do but the reality is that this is not His intention.
